Caring for your new tattoo
Please follow these aftercare instructions to look after your tattoo wound properly!
You will need unscented mild liquid soap, and a gentle unscented white lotion.
The aftercare plan for the first few hours or days will depend on the type of bandage that I sent you home with.
For non-adhesive pad bandages:
Leave the bandage on for about 4-5 hours. If we finish our appointment at nighttime, feel free to leave it on until the morning.
Second skin:
Leave the bandage on for 3-5 days.
To remove your second skin bandage, wash your hands and rinse the bandage under warm water. Pull the edge of the bandage horizontally to stretch it out, and lift gently to remove it one little section at a time.
After removing your bandage
Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and liquid antibacterial soap. Rinse the tattoo with warm water, pat dry with a paper towel, and let air dry. Apply a very thin layer of white, unscented, gentle body lotion. I recommend brands like Cetaphil, Cerave, Aveeno, etc.
The first ~two weeks
Be sure to always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo.
Gently wash the area with unscented liquid antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day, and use lotion whenever the area feels dry. Do not expose the tattoo to sunlight, do not use SPF on the tattoo.
Never pick at, scratch, or peel the tattoo. This is one of the biggest causes of infections and can lead to ink “falling out” and giving the piece a patchy or uneven heal.
Do not soak the tattoo. No baths, hot tubs, swimming, or saunas. Avoid heavy sweating for the first 4-5 days.
Keep pets away from your tattoo, absolutely do not let them lick, touch, or scratch the tattoo wound.
